Ben Buchanan / NZ
Ben Buchanan was born in New Plymouth in 1973. He graduated from Otago Art School and later completed a post-graduate diploma from Elam, Auckland University. He has exhibited prolifically around Auckland and has been involved in group shows in both Dublin and New York. Buchanan’s work is influenced by the ‘patterns of nature and culture’ – juxtaposing the natural with synthetic, the hand-made with the mass-produced. These often graphic images hold an ambiguous quality, shifting between the abstract and the pictorial.

Howard Matil / NZ
“1977, Britain’s first ever summer. Aged 6, my best friend’s dad had built him a skateboard. Rather rudimentary in design we took turns riding the small wooden rectangle on wheels. Sitting down on the deck, knees tucked under chin, we rolled down a slight gradient into his father’s garage. Later that summer the release of Star Wars meant the end of our skateboarding for summer activities.”

John Reynolds / NZ
Allan Smith once described John Reynolds’ work as “intoxicating, indecorous, hedonistic, romantic, sublime, mythopoetic, epic and visionary, excessive and cloying. Satanic and heavenly, restless; his compositions as turbulent, angelic, chromatic, shimmering and exfoliating, internally stressed, externally unhinged, and ornamental; his iconography as reminiscent of blood vessels and hallucinated architecture.” He is represented in Auckland by Sue Crockford Gallery in Auckland and Peter McLeavey Gallery in Wellington.

Wunderkammer / NZ
Wunderkammer (Cabinets of Curiosity). The brainchild of Mr Mark Crane has enjoyed a well respected, low profile existence since 2002. Inspired by the meticulously handcrafted portrayal of Renaissance Europe’s finest cabinets, Crane has indulged himself in a quiet pastime creating his own representation for his Auckland store. Situated on Ponsonby Road the installation at his own contemporary cabinet draws on the basic quest for knowledge of the bizarre and rare natural history art and artefact. Wunderkammer is the exclusive stockist of Comme des Garçons, Ann Demeulemeester and Costume National menswear in New Zealand.
